Post Natal Pilates
What is Postnatal Pilates?
Postnatal Pilates is a specialised form of Pilates designed to help new mothers recover from childbirth and strengthen their bodies. It focuses on rebuilding core strength, improving posture, and addressing the physical changes and challenges that come with pregnancy and delivery.
By focusing on core strength, flexibility, and overall well-being, it helps new mothers regain their fitness and confidence in a safe and supportive environment. Always consult with your GP or healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program, and enjoy the journey of nurturing both your body and mind during this special time.
What are the benefits?
Core Strengthening: Helps restore strength to the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor, which can be weakened during pregnancy and childbirth.
Improved Posture: Addresses postural changes and back pain caused by carrying and nursing a baby.
Increased Flexibility: Enhances overall flexibility and reduces muscle tension.
Better Balance and Coordination: Helps regain balance and coordination that may be affected post-pregnancy.
Stress Relief: Provides a calm, focused environment to reduce stress and promote mental well-being.
Enhanced Energy Levels: Boosts energy and reduces fatigue through gentle, effective exercise.
Supportive Community: Offers a supportive environment where new mothers can share experiences and connect with others.
When can I start Postnatal Pilates?
It's generally safe to start postnatal Pilates 6-8 weeks after a vaginal delivery and about 8-12 weeks after a cesarean section, but it's crucial to get clearance from your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program.
What should I wear to a Postnatal Pilates class?
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of movement. Supportive sports bras and comfortable leggings are ideal.
Will I need any special equipment?
Just bring a Pilates or yoga mat (or drop me a line if you don’t have one!)
Can I bring my baby to class?
Our classes are 100 percent designed to accommodate both you and your babies!
What if I’ve never done Pilates before?
Postnatal Pilates is suitable for beginners. I am trained to modify exercises to suit all levels of fitness and experience and will guide you through each movement to ensure you are performing them safely.
How often should I do Postnatal Pilates?
Consistency is key to rebuilding strength and improving overall fitness. We offer a introductory 6 week course and then recommend moving on to further Pilates courses and training.
